Alright, now I know some of you are anxious to talk about the all important birthday cake. Trust me I am too, I have made some fun cakes and I am excited to share them with you. However I thought we might continue the series with party themes first, because, well that will determine a lot about how you decorate the cake. So let's get started!
Cake time! Yes, I know, finally, we get to talk about the cake. Now don't go too crazy when you hear this, I almost always make the boys birthday cakes using a boxed mix. Here's a mini disclaimer, just because the name of my blog is Scratch Mom doesn't mean I'm out reinventing the wheel or running myself ragged trying to do everything from scratch. If you don't cook from scratch 100% of the time, I will never make you feel bad about it. The Scratch Mom theme has more to do with resourcefulness and the will and ability to work with your hands than simply cooking from scratch. Here's another shocker for you-there have been times I've ordered a cake from Costco-gasp! Okay, are you over it yet? Okay, good, me too, because Costco cake is delicious! I don't do everything from scratch, but a lot of things I do. Decorating the cake is really where I like to put my energy when it comes to the cake.
