I’m excited to begin a new series about our latest and biggest family project. I haven’t blogged in quite a while, but I am not going to waste the opportunity to chronicle the ultimate “from scratch” project-the building of our new home!!! I have been posting a bit here and there on Instagram and Facebook, but here I’ll get you caught up to speed and give a more detailed journey through the process, starting from the very beginning... |

I have been brainstorming quite a few blog topics lately and even started drafting a few posts. My folder of drafts that never seem to be finished is growing and not really helping anyone, so let's get some actual posts up, shall we? As I am sandwiched between two of my kiddos birthdays currently, what better time to start a series on birthday cakes and celebrations! This ought to be fun, after all with four children ages 11 to 4 we have celebrated 31 birthdays with our own children alone. That seems so crazy! Sometimes the celebrations have been big and sometimes they have been small but they have always been wonderful times of celebration. So here we go, the Scratch Mom Birthday Blog series begins now!
![]() I've been thinking about what to write for the first "Scratch Mom" post for a few weeks now. Should I pick up where I left off on the old blog? Should I explain the transition? Should I back track to avoid confusion? Should I just start fresh? Too many decisions and/or choices just make me crazy! Which is the entire point of scratchmom.com-to not drive myself crazy with the excess of creativity in my head! So lets combine all of those a bit into the new and improved creative space for a scratch mom. Four years ago your heart beat a melody that I will never forget. We closed a chapter that was too short and though it seemed the end of the story, new chapters were yet to be written. It is hard to believe so many years could pass-and you frozen in my mind it seems-perhaps looking down and watching us from your perch on His lap.
![]() Today I decided to write in honor of a dear friend. Being as a lot of my writing here at Just A Branch focus’ on life’s tougher moments, and how we deal with them, this post will fit right in. Being “just a branch” comes with it the privilege of mingling with other leaves on the tree, so to speak. About a week ago we had some spare time on our hands during the afternoons, being as it was parent teacher conference week at school. I had this idea to have the Bauer girls over to share with my brood about diabetes and they’re mother, Sarah was thrilled to indulge us.
![]() Here is an easy family pleasing meal you can put together ahead of time and freeze using pizza dough. If you don't have your own pizza dough recipe I have shared our family recipe in my last post. So go back to that post, or use your own recipe to whip up yourself a batch of dough and meet us back here to make some pizza rolls! ![]() This is a must know in our family. The majority of our Friday nights are spent at Mom and Dad's indulging in slice after slice of the best homemade pizza you will ever taste. Now once I give you the recipe you'll be off and running but let me just encourage you that if it doesn't turn out the first time to try again. It was totally an average trip to the grocery store turned major nesting episode. What can I say chicken was on sale, one thing led to another and by the time Caleb got home at around 6pm he looked at me and said “you haven’t left the kitchen all day-have you?” Needless to say I made over 20 meals, Caleb’s brother and his wife brought pizza over for dinner so I could finally leave the kitchen and I slept very well that night.
