One Year-Goodbye Judah, Hello Grace

I've been anticipating this day for awhile...Just like other days that have come and gone I have been curious how I would feel about their significance to me.

December 20th, Judah's due date came and went just the same, with the hustle and bustle of the holidays keeping us busy and the excitement of little Grace on the way.

April 16th came and went without much more than a thought remembering that it was this day I found out I was pregnant with Judah as I now mother 4 children, little Grace now safe in our arms.

The Blessing of a Daughter

4/26/2012

We have not been out of the house with Grace much in the last three weeks. I find myself far more protective of her than I was with the boys, which I did not expect. I expected Caleb to be the most protective of her, which he is, simply because she’d be “daddy’s little girl” and I would not necessarily have the same type of bond with her. Of course I knew I would love my baby, but I simply assumed my special bond would be with the boys and Caleb’s would be with his little girl.

A Family Update

3/22/2012

I was not very good at getting our Christmas cards out this year. I made them and only sent out a handful before Christmas-the rest are still in a box in my office and will probably never make it to their intended recipients. Life just gets busy some times and there is not enough of me to go around. Nevertheless, it does not take away how important our friends and family are to us. We value their presence in our lives and try our best to keep everyone updated on our growing family in the hopes that we might be of some encouragement to you and your family. So for those of you who are close friends and family and did not get a Christmas card, it's totally my fault and totally not because you got missed or forgotten. Hopefully, you can get caught up here on our crazy lives here...so here is my feeble attempt to update you all on our growing family…

Project Time-A Quilt For Grace

3/22/2012

The one thing I was most excited about when we found out we were expecting a little girl was shopping for fabric to make her first quilt. I just couldn't wait to put together that first little creation with her in mind. I started googling quilt block patterns and knew generally what colors I wanted to use. Nothing overly pink and girly would be right and I wanted it to be something she would still like when she got older so cutesy baby fabric was out.

Time For Apples!

Okay, I still have a box of apples in my kitchen that need to be taken care of, which reminded me, I still need to get to this post as well. We got our apples from Tonnemaker Hill Farms in Royal City this year and let me tell you, they are delicious! I got a box of Honeycrisp and a box of Gala apples. I have to put in my two cents here to say that I love buying our fruits and veggies locally for a couple of reasons, mainly, I know where my food is coming from and I know who I am supporting. Plus it's so much more fun to get stuff farm fresh. I also bought pumpkins-which, you bet, I use in cooking-and a box of acorn squash, Caleb's favorite.

As We Enter A Season of Thanksgiving...

Can you believe it is already mid November? Aside from the cold, I love this time of year. Around here, in Moses Lake it is a season of harvest, which simply reminds me of how much we have been blessed with, ushering in a season of thanksgiving. You may have noticed a lack of activity here on my blog, but it there has certainly not been a lack of activity in our lives these days!

Celebrating Harvest-Hang on Little Tomato

10/21/2011

One of my favorite things to grow in my garden is tomatoes. There is nothing quite as wonderful as a sun warmed tomato fresh from the garden. A dash of salt and pepper or a drizzle of oil and balsamic vinegar- I can't think of a bad way to enjoy a tomato-even green ones are great fired and dipped in zesty buttermilk ranch. It's a good thing dinner will soon be ready because I am getting a bit hungry now!

One in Four...

10/15/2011

I saw a friend's Facebook post this evening and was reminded that today, October 15, is pregnancy & infant loss awareness day. It was originally signed into existence by the House of Representatives during the Reagan administration-kinda cool, and something I probably would have never known about. I know because, I am 1 in 4. You never think it will be you until it is the life you are living and especially if you are someone like me who began life as a mother with 3 healthy boys. It's almost ironic, as I am now 1 in 4 women statistically who, has experienced the loss of a child during pregnancy, that it was my 4th pregnancy that suddenly threw us all a curve ball we weren't expecting.

Bagels and Schmear!

Today I had planned to take the kids out to Tonnemakers Farm in Royal City, together with a couple other moms and their kiddos. However upon waking I found that the rain, that had lulled me to sleep, was still here creating a gray and soggy day-not quite ideal for taking kids to a farm. So we will reschedule for another day and instead enjoy a cozy afternoon indoors. With the extra time I have, I thought I ought to post a few updates on the projects going on around our home this past week.

Blessings One by One

10/4/2011

I’ve been hard at work preserving this year’s harvest.  We have potatoes, apples and peaches aplenty. Not to mention the few jars of jam, corn from Marla and sausage that we helped process with the family. When you think in terms of what has been harvested and the abundance of all the produce it is hard to remember that the rest of the year has been so difficult. No matter what, God is still working to provide for us and bless us. So often it is easy to focus on the tough times and the unpleasant things that we face that we forget how extravagantly we are loved and how much God desires to bless us. It is so important to remember to count our blessings because even though they come one by one they add up to a surprising amount of goodness in our lives.

The Potter

*I wrote today's post originally on July 30th 2011*

Today as we perused handcrafted items at the Sequim farmers market, I noticed something very unique to pottery. As we looked at pieces in one particular booth, the artist encouraged us to pick up the pieces, remarking "they are meant to be held and touched." It was not the first time we had heard this today- a lady at a previous booth selling pottery had, moments before, told us the exact same thing.

***This was posted on my previous blog, which I am in the process of migrating some of my posts from. I'm thinking this one may begin a "Favorite Things" series :-) -Sharon, 10/02/2015

So now that you’ve been reading my posts and a little about what is on my mind, I thought I’d do something fun to switch gears – and keep you excited about what I might write about in the future.

So who is Sharon and what has she been up to lately? What does she like to do and what might she post about in the future?

Trading Sorrow For Joy

On May 31st I had the opportunity to attend the birth of sweet little Emily.
It had been just an ordinary day hanging out with friends on Memorial Day and we had just settled in to bed. I awoke to Caleb's buzzing phone around 11pm. He had received a text from Jay saying they would need us to come get their daughter Jocelynne.  I quickly called Jay and told him I'd be on my way. When I got to their home Jocelynne was still asleep and Maria said I didn't have to go right away and then in the middle of a contraction she begged me to stay.

Eight Weeks and Counting!

8/30/2011

Last Friday marked 8 weeks in my pregnancy-I can not tell you what a huge relief it is to get past this point. On Wednesday of last week I had my first prenatal appointment and ultrasound. I'm so glad I scheduled it early because I was so anxious! I dropped the kids off at Maria's and chatted for a bit and then went to the clinic. I could hardly stand it and to top it off our midwife Sherrie was at the hospital for a c-section. I was assured I would be her first patient and she would be back soon.
