Project Time-A Quilt For Grace

The one thing I was most excited about when we found out we were expecting a little girl was shopping for fabric to make her first quilt. I just couldn't wait to put together that first little creation with her in mind. I started googling quilt block patterns and knew generally what colors I wanted to use. Nothing overly pink and girly would be right and I wanted it to be something she would still like when she got older so cutesy baby fabric was out.

As I mentioned a couple posts down I started a "pinning" recently on Pinterest which has become a great source of inspiration. I'm determined not to be a compulsive pinner who never actually does any of it and I think I'm doing pretty good so far. After I write this post I'll be starting a board of things I've actually done as well as posting more of my own ideas and projects from this blog.

I came across a pin for this quilt block that became my inspiration. Aren't the colors pretty?! The tutorial is pretty good too though for the life of me I just couldn't visualize it as a repeating pattern so I modified it...

Here is my version with the fabrics I chose.

I finished it with a chocolate brown flannel backing and decided on hand stitching the edge.

You'll have to forgive me for the lack of a decent photo-I've been using my iphone a lot lately because it's much more handy. Any way I'm very pleased with the final product especially the colors and pattern I chose. The colors remind me of strawberries and watermelon. But the best part is that my mom loves it and it felt so good to know that my mother thinks it's such a beautiful piece of work-it made me feel so special to know she was so proud and excited to have a little girl of my own soon!
