Starting From Scratch...well sort of

I've been thinking about what to write for the first "Scratch Mom" post for a few weeks now. Should I pick up where I left off on the old blog? Should I explain the transition? Should I back track to avoid confusion? Should I just start fresh? Too many decisions and/or choices just make me crazy! Which is the entire point of scratchmom.com-to not drive myself crazy with the excess of creativity in my head! So lets combine all of those a bit into the new and improved creative space for a scratch mom.

Obviously, this is not the beginning, no more than if you met me for the first time today. You're joining in on an adventure already in progress, so don't be shy-jump in with both feet, just like me and enjoy the adventures past, present and all the ones yet to come! I'll catch you up to speed a bit today as it's the first official post. Later, there will be times I'll share some old adventures right along with the new ones, sort of like when you're in the midst of a new adventure and it reminds you of an old one. It'll be lots of fun!

So for starters let's get you you up to speed :-)

My name is Sharon and I live in a little town called Moses Lake in Washington state. We have a little home in town but Moses Lake is a rural community to be sure, dominated by agriculture and industry. I love living here and raising our family in a small community was exactly what we wanted. Our goal is to build a home on property outside of city limits. In the meantime we're content where we are. Despite our home's small size we have been able to do a lot and enjoy some neat experiences right where we are.

Although I grew up in the Suburbs of Seattle on the West side and Caleb grew up in the country here on the East side we were raised with a similar upbringing. We are "complimentary" to each other, as we used to say early in our marriage. Him being the oldest of three boys and me being the oldest of three girls. Our parents were both hard working examples to us. Currently, between our parents there are over 60 years of marriage going strong. Our fathers "brought home the bacon" and set strong examples of a hearty work ethic. Our mothers supported them at home choosing not to work full time till we were much older. They cooked from scratch, used what they had and kept busy keeping a home-which is not easy while there are children in it! My own mother is now a successful business owner with clients she loves and Caleb's mother is a full time nurse. They both still cook from scratch, garden, enjoy canning, sewing and are currently enjoying the blessings of  an ever increasing amount of grandchildren. They were the "scratch moms" that showed-that are still showing me-how it's done, they are my inspiration and motivation and not just them but their moms before them. I love hearing their stories of how they would do things and even of them remembering the way their moms and grandmas would do things. I am certainly not THE scratch mom-I am simply one who desires to carry the torch to the next generation and set a diligent and Godly example for my children.
